Hargreaves Photography on Tour

Many of you might be aware that Hargreaves Photography is on tour at the moment, visiting the stunning state of Tasmania.

We have received comments that you would like to see more landscape shots on our website, so we’re here doing a lap of Tasmania grabbing photographs of this breathtakingly beautiful state along the way.

We’re only just starting our photo tour, but we thought that we ought to share some of our shots from the first day of shooting!

We’ll add shots to the blog as we travel around Tasmania, and once we return, we’ll make these images and our others available for purchase via our website.

All for a Great Cause

One of the best things about being a photographer is bringing smiles to our clients’ faces, but one thing that tops even that is applying our photographic skills to help a good cause.  We often assist charities by providing our photographic services to them free-of-charge for either fundraising or to help promote their events.

Our Principal Photographer, Neil Hargreaves, has an established relationship with MS Australia and has volunteered to assist at their major events in a variety of roles over a number of years.  This year we have provided our photographic services to MS Australia to help their amazing events team promote their fund-raising events, including the MS Walk & Fun Run and the MS 24hr MegaSwim.

This week we were thrilled to learn that MS Australia has chosen to use some of our images in their quarterly InTouch magazine.

There are more photographs from MS Events in the clients area on our main website, www.hargreavesphotography.com.au.

At Hargreaves Photography, we are thrilled to help support MS Australia and its work to support the multiple sclerosis community.  We can’t wait to see everybody again for the annual MS Gong Ride on 7 November 2010!

Rebecca & Keegan

I woke early this morning to a text message from Keegan & Rebecca, who were about to board a flight to start their Fijian honeymoon, to thank me for shooting their wedding at the weekend.

And it makes me think.  Thank me?  For the chance for me to be part of their most important of days.  To share in the laughter, and a few tears.  To be invited into some of Sydney’s most beautiful venues and to share parts of their day that even the guests don’t get to see.  To join in the party, and to do what I love to do most – shoot photographs.

Rebecca and Keegan’s big day took me on a whistle-stop tour of Sydney’s harbour suburbs – the boys got ready in the Harbourview hotel in North Sydney, the girls in the Sebel Pier One in Walsh Bay.  Then a dash across the bridge in pursuit of Rebecca’s London Taxi to their wedding ceremony at the Mosman Art Gallery.

After some photographs at beautiful Balmoral Beach, we raced across Sydney Harbour to a stunning reception at Wolfies in The Rocks.  All stunning locations in their own right, and a photographer’s dream when parcelled together!

As always, you’ll find more photos from Rebecca and Keegan’s big day in the clients area on our main website, www.hargreavesphotography.com.au.

Thank me?  Right.

It really is the other way around.

I really can’t thank my couples enough for inviting me into their lives, even for just one, very special, day.  It’s a huge privilege – an honour that I’ll be forever thankful for.

So, thank you Rebecca & Keegan – it is couples like you who are the reason why I just love my job!

Meet Noah

Is it me, or are babies getting more and more gorgeous these days?  This young man is Noah, pictured with mum & dad, Alisha & Pete.

Noah was on his very best behaviour for the photo session, he didn’t even squeak and was bright and alert for a whole two hours!  I hope he was as well behaved for Alisha & Pete after we left!

Don’t tell anybody, but photographing all these beautiful babies is making me a tiny bit clucky ;-)

Congratulations on your new arrival Alisha & Pete!

As always, you’ll find more images from this shoot in the clients area on our website, www.hargreavesphotography.com.au.

Rush Hour in The Rocks

Some reprieve from the recent Sydney rain brought out the crowds around The Rocks area whilst we were shooting some portraits with this lovely engaged couple, Iris & Matt. We had chosen the Argyle Stairs for the shoot, a well known historic site with a mix of old and new architecture in the background.

The stairs are also on the main pedestrian route from The Rocks to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and we experienced a steady stream of traffic, grabbing shots when we could. Iris and Matt were great about the constant interruptions and shared a laugh with the tourists, locals, treasure hunters and pub crawlers as they walked by!

Sydney blessed us with dry weather for the shoot, but the high-level overcast skies made for some fairly flat light which was countered by bringing out the softbox and a 580EXII flash remotely triggered using the always reliable and constantly impressive PocketWizard FlexTT5.  I must thank my assistant-for-the-day Sally (who happens to also be my beautiful wife) without whom the photographs wouldn’t have had the pop that they have.

As always, you’ll find more images from this shoot in the clients area on our website, www.hargreavesphotography.com.au.

Andreas

Another fun photoshoot with newborn Andreas and his totally gorgeous big sister, Chiara and, of course, happy mum & dad, Ilaria and Carlos.

More photos from this shoot are, as always, in the Clients’ section of our website, www.hargreavesphotography.com.au.

The Internet is Broken

Apologies for those of you who have had difficulties accessing our website this afternoon (20 June). Our web and mail host suffered some technical difficulties with their servers which temporarily prevented access to our website until around 6pm this evening.

They have assured us that everything is now back online, however, it is possible that any emails that you sent us during the outage might still be floating around the internet.

If we haven’t replied to your email and you think we should have, please resend your email and we’ll get right onto it.

Mandalay Wedding – Krisztina & Manuel

Sydney provided another stunning winter day for the wedding of Krisztina and Manuel at the Mandalay in Lane Cove.

After some formal wedding photographs at the Shangri-La in The Rocks, Sydney, Krisztina and Manual travelled in style in a beautiful 1960 Mercedes 300d, over the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Mandalay in Lane Cove.

The Mandalay is a gorgeous venue for more formal shots of the bride and groom and their families.  The ante-room upstairs leads out onto a balcony over looking the landscaped gardens, and a timber staircase, with light streaming through its stained-glass windows, leads down to the reception venue proper.

The civil ceremony, by celebrant Sarah Tolmie, was held in the gardens and was followed by a blessing from Fr Felix.

Our best wishes and thanks go to Krisztina & Manuel!

As usual, you’ll find more images in the clients area on our website, www.hargreavesphotography.com.au.

MS Walk & Fun Run 2010

I mentioned previously that I had volunteered to cover the MS Walk & Fun Run this year.  It was my first year covering this event for MS Australia and had a fantastic time shooting the run, which took place in North Sydney, and later in the city for the Morning Tea stop.

It was a cold, cold wind blowing from the south when I arrived at Bradfield Park just before 6am, but, having experienced a sustained spell of rain in Sydney, it was a very pleasant surprise to welcome the dawn with clear skies.

MS Walk Sunrise on Sydney Harbour

Those who participated in the run event had a glorious morning and views of Sydney Harbour to spur them on and take their minds off the hills and steps which formed part of the 8km course.  Out on the walk courses (which varied between 5 and 16km), walkers were able to soak up the sights of Sydney, from the city, to the harbour and Royal Botanic Gardens, stopping at Circular Quay for morning tea and entertainment.

Even stormtroopers need a cup of tea!

The event, which raises money to support those people affected by multiple sclerosis, is very close to meeting its target of raising $750,000.  It’s not too late to donate, click through to http://www.mssociety.org.au for more information!

EDIT: I’ve had a few emails from people looking for their photographs. I, along with the other volunteer photographers on the day, have sent all of the photographs of the day to MS Australia for inclusion on their website and for the team photographs to be printed and sent out to team captains. If you’re enquiring about your photos, please get in touch with the MS Events team in the first instance. If you know that I took your photograph, I’d be more than happy to email you the image. Just drop me an email to enquiries@hargreavesphotography.com.au!

SoFoBoMo – thanks to everyone for their suggestions

SoFoMoBo kicked off on 1 June 2010 starting a two-month window during which photographers worldwide choose to design, shoot, layout and print a photography book in just 31 days.

My 2121 theme appeared to have been well received, I’ve even been asked if the book is going to be released for sale publicly!

Thank you to everyone who responded with suggestions of important and iconic locations within the 2121 postcode area for inclusion into the book.  I have decided to commence my 31 day production period on 7 June – say hello if you see me out and about shooting photographs for the book.  The schedule is very tight, so I’ll be shooting whatever the weather.
